c) Flag the call data records in the system to identify 2G and 3G calls, etc and with the help of the billing system segregate the revenues that have been generated in 2G and 3G
- With the introduction of MNP, segregation of revenues will become inevitable
- TRAI recommendation that 3G standalone operators pay 1% whilst 2G+3G operators pay 5% of AGR as spectrum usage charges in unfair and inequitable as it treats equals unequally. When both parties have acquired spectrum in the same manner & paid the same price, it is against all principles of level playing field to apply differential spectrum usage charges.
- TRAI opinion that segregation of 2G & 3G revenues is not desirable was in a scenario when it had recommended that only existing operators bid for 3G spectrum./ Once new standalone 3G operators are being allowed to bid, clearly, segregation is necessary to ensure level playing field amongst all 3G players.
- The Radio Access Network is different for 2G & 3G. Traffic segregation is a function of the radio access network. It may be noted that as core networks evolve, MSCs, soft switches and packet networks are converging not only for 3G/GSM but also for CDMA2000/GSM.
