3G entry in India looks likely to miss another deadline owing to unresolved differences between the Defence Ministry and the DoT say reports.
As reported by TelecomTiger, the DoT has approached the Law Ministry to review some of the clauses include recently in the 3G policy guidelines. But this is just one of the reasons holding up the auctions.
There are serious differences between the Defence Ministry and the DoT over multiple issues such as number of blocks to auction, the band allotted to BSNL and MTNL and the speed of the project to set up an alternate cable network for the Defence forces.
Just last week the Communications Minister had reaffirmed that the 3G auctions will take place within this fiscal. But reports say this looks unlikely as the auctions may now take place only by August-September in next fiscal.
The development if true projects the country in a very bad light as India is the world’s fastest growing mobile services market in the world having notched up more than 19 million subscribers in a single month in December 2009.
It also highlights the inefficient working of the DoT and remains a big failure of the UPA government which is taking time since 2004 to devise a policy framework for 3G services.
