Vodafone India has hinted at hike in tariff rates in the coming years. This includes phone call and other mobile services rates, according to PTI.
The report has quoted Vodafone India MD and CEO Marten Pieters as saying that one can’t expect the tariff to go down forever.
India’s second largest operator which along with other leading telcos like Airtel is talking about the consolidation in telecom sector in the backdrop of shrinking margins operator is of the view that the low tariff regime which has been in existence for the last 18 years can’t help the industry.
Pieters said told PTI that the company has reached a point where it has no other option but to increase the tariff. He said that in future 2G and 3G rates could be at the same level with former expected to go up and latter likely to come down.
RCom and Aircel have recently brought 3G mobile internet rates down at par with 2G mobile internet rates.
Vodafone which has 15.43 crore subscribers in India lost 85,811 users in August. Leading telecom firms are is looking for consolidation of market after the government approved 100 percent FDI in telecom sector. |
