TT Correspondent |  |  21 Apr 2014

The Nokia- Microsoft deal of USD 7.2 billion is officially coming to a close by the end of April. Once the deal is closed, the Nokia mobile will be renamed to Microsoft Mobile. Nokia’s handset and services business will be known as Microsoft Mobile Oy, Nokia said in a mail sent out to existing users with a Nokia account.

Nokia’s handset and services business is expected to run as usual after Microsoft acquires it. Stephen Elop, who was the CEO and President of Nokia before the acquisition deal was announced, will head the division under Microsoft.

The USD 7.2 billion deal signed in 2013 and which closes in April is, however, not likely to affect have immediate effect on Nokia's business partners.

"Under the terms of the sale, Microsoft will assume all rights, benefits and obligations of the Nokia Devices and Services business, including Nokia's agreements with suppliers, customers and partners which pertain to the Devices and Services business. Therefore, the purpose of this letter is to update you that the current terms and conditions that you have with the Devices and Services business will not change," Nokia is reported to said in the leaked letter.
