  China’s leading handset maker ZTE has announced its foray into Indian smartphone and tablet market. For this ZTE has collaborated with Pune-based Calyx Telecommunications for their distribution, sales and marketing.
ZTE will initially focus on five handset models within the price range of Rs 5,799 to Rs 14,999. Later the company will introduce tablets and PCs. ZTE products will be available in all major states by the end of October 2013”
To begin with the collaboration will focus on five states- Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Later it will target 60 cities and towns through over 7000 touch points.
In the recent past ZTE has given indications of aggressive marketing of its handsets. In India it will have to compete with Samsung, Nokia and Sony. ZTE is planning to sell one million smartphones in the first year.
"Backed by our strong portfolio and R&D capabilities supported by Calyx Telecommunications strong financing background and distribution channels, we expect to emerge as a key player in the Indian smartphone arena. Globally, ZTE is the 4th largest handset manufacturer and we are certain to strengthen our position in India, which is a key growth propeller for us, contributing to 10% of our overall revenues”, said CEO of ZTE India Xu Dejun.
ZTE is already supplying handsets to Micromax, Karbonn, RCom and Idea Cellular.
