BSNL launches CUG plan for OBCs
TT Correspondent |  |  05 Jul 2011
BSNL has launched a closed user group plan for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Maharashtra. It has tied up with the Satyashodhak OBC Parishad, a non-political organisation, for a prepaid talk time plan at nominal charges. The parishad plans to add 6,000 members every month.

The OBCs will get SIM cards from BSNL after getting recommendation letters from district nodal officers of the Satyashodhak OBC Parishad. Nodal officers will endorse application forms (which can be obtained at BSNL customer care centres) if a caste certificate is produced.

Maharashtra’s  6 crore OBCs play a crucial role in state’s political and cultural landscapes. The scheme will help the political parties to reach out to their support base among OBCs, according to some political observers.
