Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei Technologies has urged the Australian government that it be treated as a normal business following the ban on the company to participate national broadband project, according The Australian Financial Review.

In an interview a senior Huawei executive with an Australian media outlet, Huawei global board member Chen Lifang has expressed concern about the influence of intelligence agencies on its ability to operate on a commercial basis.

She wondered why Australia was the only country to exclude the company from helping to build its national broadband network, a ban revealed by The Australian Financial Review in March.

“Nine countries are setting up national broadband networks,” she said. “Huawei is providing infrastructure to eight of them.”

Huawei has no plans to appeal against the ban and is ramping up its business in Australia.

However, the decision confused and led to concerns among Huawei’s customers and potential clients, Chen said.
