Videocon Telecom, the telecommunication arm of the $4 Billion Videocon Group, on Monday announced that it is planning to participate in the third round of spectrum auction likely to be held in January 2014. The company is planning to bid for the 900 Mhz license for Delhi.
Videocon said that it seeks to re-establish itself as a strategic national telecom player and is planning to bid in the upcoming licence auction.
The company said that it finds the sharp cut in the reserve spectrum floor price for the 900 Mhz spectrum to be very attractive and is seeing it as a big opportunity.
The company realizes the importance of Delhi circle in their strategic framework and said that it is also seeing huge opportunity in the liberalized license regime and talks about unleashing the data opportunity in the telecom circle of Delhi NCR in a big way, where the 900 Mhz spectrum will be the most efficient spectrum for a densely populated city like Delhi NCR.
Videocon has appointed top consulting firm Deloitte to formulate their business plan & rollout strategy for Delhi.
Videocon won 2G spectrum in 6 circles for Rs 2200 crore in the auction held in November 2012. Videocon Telecom won circles like Uttar Pradesh East, Uttar Pradesh West, Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. It has subscriber base of 4.1 million as on July 31, 2013.
It said that it has been making huge investments in the business and has successfully rolled out 3 out of 6 license acquired in Nov’12 auction.
“The brand has almost doubled its Network presence in the four operating circles including Punjab & is all set to rollout the remaining three circles within the next 12 months.
