TT Correspondent |  |  18 Apr 2014

The Google launched a Chrome Remote Desktop app on the Play Store; Chrome Remote Desktop can let you access your home or office PC from your smartphone. It is possible to access Windows and Mac machines via Android smartphones and tablets. The new app is an extended version of Google’s previously launched Chrome Remote Desktop screen-sharing service, which allows you to share your desktop’s screen with other Chrome browser or Chromebook users.

In order to set up Remote Desktop, you’ll need to download the Chrome Remote Desktop Android app from Play Store and login with their Google ID to see the devices they can access remotely. In order to control any desktop from their Android device, they need to input the PIN number provided when they set up remote access for the desktop. Thereafter, they can operate the desktop from their Android device at any time.

The app also allows users to securely connect to their data and applications with the use of Network Layer Authentication (NLA) technology. The Remote Desktop app also offers high quality video and sound streaming with improved compression and bandwidth usage and also offers support for printing from Windows applications to any printer configured on the Mac and allows users to access local files on the Mac even from Windows applications.

The app does not work perfectly though. For example, if a users opens a file on the desktop via a smartphone or tablet.

An iOS version of Chrome Remote Desktop will be made available in the near future, Husain Bengali, product manager of Google's remote access programme, wrote in a Blog Post.
