TT Correspondent |  |  01 Aug 2016

Huawei India has announced its CSR partnership program Daksha with SOS Children’s Villages India with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to support education and child welfare.  As a part of the Daksha program, Huawei India connects with 982 children to support quality education for children living in 10 SOS of India across Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Telengana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Aiming to bridge the digital divide, Dakhsa program also provides for computers and internet facilities to 20 family homes in SOS Children’s Village Greenfields Faridabad (Haryana) to help unlock the digital world for the children living in the SOS Children’s Villages.

“We believe that sustainable development is possible only when organizations align their corporate goals to the development goals of communities. At Huawei, we are committed to giving back to the community where we operate in. The Daksha initiative will be an umbrella program under which we aim to support children and students—our future resource, with holistic development and adequate digital literacy in line with the vision laid down by the Government of India,” said Jay Chen, CEO Huawei India.

“Education is the key to creating opportunities, and this partnership reflects the commitment of Huawei as a global corporate citizen, to support the Government’s initiative. We look forward to a win-win industry ecosystem that promotes the sustainable development of the society and economy,” said Dr. Ajay Kumar, Additional Secretary, Department of Electronic & Information Technology (DeiTY).

“An initiative like Daksha offers great encouragement to us and strengthens our resolve towards improving lives of once parentless and abandoned children under our care. This support will give a big push towards empowering the SOS Children with quality education as well as opening up their world with computers and internet facilities. Our constant endeavor through our programmes is to equip our children with holistic development and integrating them in society. We strive to give the SOS children a normal childhood and opportunities to grow up and become successful, contributing members of society. I am confident that through this partnership with Huawei India, we will continue to grow our programmes from strength to strength,” said Anuja Bansal, Secretary General of SOS Children’s Villages of India.

Huawei has also established a CSR Committee and CSR Executive Team to ensure that its CSR strategy is effectively implemented, including technical planning, implementation, and supervision in line with company’s global ethos as well as Government of India’s guidelines.

Huawei is a proud member of the UN Global Compact and is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities as a good corporate citizen.
