  Huawei India R&D Center announced that its employees undertook a campaign to provide books and other stationery material to the students of Nallurahalli Government School in Whitefield, Bengaluru.
The R&D center which employs nearly 3000 engineers conducted a campaign among its employees to collect books, clothes, toys, etc to be given away to needy children, as a part of employee volunteerism. The employees made generous contributions with large quantity of books and other stationery items such as pencil boxes, colour pencil sets, sketch pens, geometry boxes, drawing books, etc being collected during a 2-day campaign. The items were donated to the Nallurahalli Government School which is situated near Huawei’s new R&D campus in Whitefield, Bengaluru.
Arvind Limbavali, ex-Minister for Higher Education and MLA of Mahadevapura Constituency was the Chief Guest at the donation activity which was conducted at the school. The school which has primary and middle sections has a strength of 236 students. Every student received a set of books and stationery items.
“Huawei advocates community development and encourages its employees as well in contributing to the betterment of under-privileged children. We believe that sustainable development is possible only when organizations align their corporate goals to social developments of societies that they operate in,” said William Zhao, Chief Operating Officer of Huawei India R&D Center.
In line with the core values of Huawei globally, Huawei India has actively participated in the development of local communities. Since its inception in 1999, Huawei India has always been in the forefront, lending a helping hand during natural calamities, funding education of under-privileged children, and has been working with various NGOs across the country to support different causes. Huawei India has recently signed a MoU with Akshaya Patra Foundation in Bengaluru to support the organization with their mid-day Meal programme for over 15,000 children. The company will also support Akshaya Patra with food distribution vehicles and a kitchen upgrade programme.
Huawei is a proud member of the UN Global Compact and is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities as a good corporate citizen. The company is actively involved with trying to promote equal access to telecommunications and in helping to bridge the ‘Digital Divide’ between developing and developed nations. In addition, Huawei continues to implement its flagship CSR program, Seeds for the Future, to facilitate global knowledge transfer, support local training, and increase digital inclusion. Thus far, Huawei has partnered with more than 150 universities to implement the program in 67 countries. About 15,000 students from five different continents have benefited from the program, including more than 1,700 who studied at Huawei's headquarters in China. The most outstanding participants have since joined the ICT industry, and are actively contributing to its development. |
