TT Correspondent |  |  03 May 2018

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel continues to lead the market with 29.37% market share, adding another 8.4 million subscribers during March, taking total subscriber base to 304.9 million, according to COAI’s report released on Wednesday.

The data from the report showed that India’s total mobile subscribers base as on March 2018 is 1.035 billion. Airtel was followed by Vodafone India which ended March with 222.69 million subscribers, adding 5.6 million subscribers. At the end of March 2018, Idea Cellular had the maximum number of subscriber additions where it added 9.14 million users to bring its total subscribers to 211.2 million.

As per the report, UP (East) circle emerged as the top circle with total 89.47 million subscribers, where Maharashtra remained at second position with a total of 83.61 million mobile subscribers.

Rajan S Mathews, Director General, COAI said “We are immensely pleased to witness that country is continuing on its path of steady growth momentum. This consistent growth is imperative, particularly for the telecom industry, given its poor financial health and hyper competition. The industry is also advancing by way of adopting emerging technologies, enhancing products & services, and preparing itself for 5G and major policy reforms”.

Tamil Nadu including Chennai emerged as the circle with maximum subscriber additions of 6.30 million in the month of March. The overall subscriber-base increased by 21.87 million in the same month.
