Telecom equipment manufacturer, Motorola has reportedly laid off about 1000 professionals from its R&D unit in Wangjing, China. While the company says the exact count is not available for the Chinese unit and the lay-offs are part of the originally announced 4,000 job cuts across the globe, reports from the region put the figures at 1,000.
The company said that it was still committed to the development of China and that the strategic role of the Chinese market would not change even if the company had operated job cuts in the country.
The development marks the second time Motorola ha initiated job cuts in China Late last year, 600 employees out of 2,600 from its R&D team in China were laid off with most of them being outsourced employees. But this time, the effect employees are reported to be on the pay rolls of Motorola. |
