Review: Sony Xperia J

Why to Buy:

Xperia J offers some good features such as; 4 inch screen with Gorilla glass, Android 4.0 ICS, dual camera and 1700 mAh strong battery.

Why to Avoid:

Sony should be offering atleast 756 MB RAM for this powerful device.

Our Take:

Sony Xperia J in this price range offers better and advanced hardware and software facilities from its own Xperia GO. It is a good buy and offers strong technicalities.

Rating:

Price: Rs. 16,490

Detailed Review

Design:

Sony Xperia J is fast, slim, vivid and its curved design is its key attraction. It has 4 inch screen size with gorilla glass protection. With dimensions 124.3mm x 61.2mm x 9.2 mm in height, width and depth Xperia J is a very compact and handy phone. The weight of the phone is just 124 gm and is ease to carry. The body is well fitted and strongly built.

The keys are well placed and good fitted in the body. On the top of the phone is a 3.5 mm earjack. The left side has a USB/connectivity port whereas the right side has volume controls joined by the power key. On its front, it has a VGA camera with a status LED next to it. Below the screens are three capacitive keys for Back, Home and Menu. On its back, it holds a 5 megapixels camera with LED flash next to it and a speaker grill on the bottom.

Interface/OS:

Sony Xperia J runs on Goggle Android 4.0 ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system and is planned upgrade to Android 4.1 version. It has a 1 GHz cortex A5 processor with Qualcomm MSM7227A Snapdragon chipset.  This android version is well supported and it’s 512 MB RAM is well supporting too with Sony mobile BRAVIA engine. It supports Timescape User Interface.

Camera:

Sony Xperia J comes with 5 megapixels main camera with auto focus and LED flash light. Sony has also included a front camera in this model unlike Xperia Go that came in the same price range. So, now one can think for video calling as well. The camera features Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection and 3D sweep panorama as well. The picture quality when tested was great with outdoor shoots but indoor shoots were comparatively week.

Battery:

Sony Xperia J comes with a marathon Li-Ion 1750 mAh standard battery. The battery performed excellent results while testing. The battery works fine with daily average use and with data usage as well. The stand by time delivered when tested was up to 615 hours on 2G and 580 hours on 3G. The music play time is up to 42 hours whereas, the Talk time it gave when on test was up to 7.15 hours on 2G and up to 5.5 hours on 3G.

Memory:

Xperia J has inbuilt 4 GB memory space and is upgradeable up to 32 GB. So, you can enjoy good memory space.

Audio/Video:

The in-built music player is simply superb and it will give you good sound with pleasure to your ears and supports multiple audio formats. The video quality is good and rich with colours and sharpness and video formats comes with multiple support. It gives you HD 720 pixels resolution at 30 frames per second with 4X digital zoom and video light. It has continuous auto focus, video light and video stabilizer.

Features:

Sony Xperia J is filled with plenty of features which are impressive and worth its price. For music lovers there is Xloud, 3D surround sound and clear bass as new options. Web browser, Web Kit, Bookmarks, Pan & zoom, Android Market, Google Voice Search, Google search, etc are pre installed in the phone. Document readers, Alarm clock, Calendar, Calculator, Flight mode, Google Calendar, Phone book, E-manual, Infinite button and many more such features are in built and easy to use. Rest all that you require you can easily get from the Android market.

Conclusion:

The Xperia J from Sony is a great phone in Xperia series and will satisfy one with its features, technicalities and pre installed applications. This is a one of the good mid range smartphone of these days. But, few more advancements could have made it the best among others. Like its 512 MB RAM can be questionable to many and we also wonder why Sony is stick to 512 only. Atleast 756 MB RAM should be offered in their phones. Otherwise, this is a handsome phone for daily use.

We give this phone 4 star rating.
