2G: JPC meet postponed over list of witnesses
TT Correspondent |  |  08 Aug 2012

The meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee investigation the 2G case had to be postponed over the list of the witnesses to be summoned.

The BJP objected to the inclusion of the name of Ashok Priyadarshi, a joint secretary in the Vajpayee PMO, who died in 2001. Its members were of the view that the list of 70-odd witnesses should be reduced to the essential ones. They also demanded the names of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, finance minister P Chidambaram and senior PMO officials be included in the list.

Though JPC chairperson P C Chacko said that meeting had to be postponed in view of Jaswant Singh contesting the vice-presidential elections, there was an apparent possibility of BJP staging a walk out if the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chidambaram are not included in the list of witnesses.

The Congress on the other hand were believed to be insisting that leader of opposition Sushma Swaraj and former telecom minister Jagmohan be examined.
