Telecom operators, like Airtel and Vodafone, have asked the Department of Telecom (DoT) to compensate for the delay in allocation of spectrum won by them in the February auction and delayed by more than six months, leading to a financial loss.
In a letter, Bharti Airtel said the company should be compensated in the form of bank interests for the advance money of Rs 5,525 crore and bank guarantee of Rs 2,542 crore.
During the February 2014, the company won 1800 MHz spectrum in 15 telecom circles and 900 MHz in 3 regions.
Airtel said that the delay would impact 10.4 million subscribers in Delhi and 3.9 million users in Kolkata.
TRAI had already recommended that in case of a delay in allocation of spectrum beyond one month from the date of payment, operators should be compensated at State Bank of India, the amount that has paid already by the operators. |
