CAG asks for revenue sharing details of private telecom operators
TT Correspondent |  |  06 Jun 2013

The Comptroller and Auditor General has asked Telecom Regulatory Authority of India to submit revenue sharing details of private telecom operators of last seven years beginning 2006-07.

"DoT (Department of Telecom) has commenced the assessment process of the licence fee and spectrum usage charges of the telecom service providers since 2006-07. Therefore, it has now been decided to call for the revenue sharing details and documents from the private telecom service providers," CAG said in its communique to TRAI.

The auditor has directed the regulator to ask telecom operators to submit all their revenue sharing details of last seven years (2006-07 to 2012-13) by June 20.

Though a Supreme Court order of August 2010 prevents CAG from auditing the books until the ongoing case in the Delhi High Court is settled,  it may only collect information from operators.

The apex court in its August 2, 2010 said that each of the members of the Association shall furnish to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India revenue sharing details. It said that if CAG requires any further information on revenue sharing, the same shall also be supplied by each of the members of association," the order had said.

Telecom operators were against opposed CAG's demand for accessing their books and moved court through industry body, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).
