Jayalalithaa says it is Raja who tried to influence HC Judge
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  03 Jul 2009

Union Communications Minister, A Raja’s surfaced out in the open over the controversy surrounding the disclosure by Chennai High Court that a union Minister tried to influence him to pass on a favourable judgement to two petitioners involved in a forgery case.

While right from the time the issue came into highlight the needle of suspicion pointed towards Raja, Jayalalithaa dared to precisely blame Raja for the misdeed. In an effort to provide logical evidence to the allegation, Jayalalithaa said that the petitioner DR C Krishnamurthy was known in his town as ‘Raja’s benami’ meaning he served as proxy to the Minister for business dealings.

She alleged that before Raja became a union Minister, he had a Law office in a building owned by Krishnamurthy. She further alleged that Raja’s nephew and two nieces held stakes in a Coimbatore-based real estate firm floated by Krishnamurthy in 2007. She said that it does not require any super-human intelligence to conclude that it is none other than the Minister who tried to pressurize the HC Judge.

The issue was brought up for discussion in the state’s assembly as well with opposition demanding the identification of the Minister. Even in Rajya Sabha, Parliament members asked for the Minister to be figured out and be sacked.

The Minister however has out rightly refuted the allegations.
