Giving a short shrift to the senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha's demand that he should appear before the Joint Parliamentary Committee probing the 2G case, Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday said that the panel has the right whom it wants to summon.
While admitting that he received Sinha’s letter, Singh reminded the BJP leader that all thedocuments available with the Government have already been placed at the disposal of the JPC. He also rejected Sinha’s suggestion that he is hiding something.
BJP senior leader Yashwant Sinha in a letter to the prime minister has asked him to appear before the Joint Parliamentary committee to clear his name and impression that that he has nothing to hide.
"I think it is in your own personal interest to appear before the JPC and clear your name. You may also suggest the finance minister to make a similar offer," he wrote.
Turning the heat on Congress, Sinha said that Prime Minister had publicly offered to appear before Parliament's Public Accounts Committee in the 2G case and made a similar offer to the JPC despite the fact that many members of the JPC have publicly demanded that you appear before the JPC.
Meanwhile, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja on Wednesday backed Sinha saying that there is nothing wrong in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram appearing before the panel.
He said that many members of the JPC have demanded that the Prime Minister or the then Finance Minister must appear before JPC.
“I do not find anything wrong in what they are demanding”, he said.
