Cabinet may give nod to installing of mobile towers in Naxal areas by BSNL soon-Report

To give a fillip to its efforts to provide connectivity in Naxal affected areas, the government will install 2,200 mobile towers which will cost Rs 3,000 crore.

These states are Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

According to an ET report the government has roped in the state owned BSNL for this project. Lack of connectivity was a major complaint of the people living in Naxal affected states.

The department of telecommunications (DoT) is believed to have sent the proposal to the cabinet which is likely to take the decision this week. 

According to sources the work on installing the mobile towers will begin soon and may be operationalized by December 2013.This will be done by the Universal Service Obligation Fund(USOF).
