India's wireless services crosses the 400 mn subscriber base mark

India witnessed a new high in its telecom services domain as the wireless subscriber base reached 403.67 million at end of April with roughly about 11 million subscribers being added in the month.

 

Bharti maintained its leadership position with 96.73 million subscribers at the end of the month followed by RCom with 74.83 million subscribers. Vodafone reached 71.54 million subscriber mark while BSNL''s subscriber base scaled to 53.17 million at the end of April.

 

Idea Cellular managed a subscriber base of 40.02 million while Aircel recorded 19.58 million subscribers by April 2009.

 

Wireline subscriber base however witnessed a decline with subscriber base dropping to 37.81 million as compared to 37.96 million at end of March. In the wireline segment, BSNL was the only player among the prominent operators in the segment to have witnessed a drop in subscriber base. Its subscriber base for wireline services stood at 29.14 million as compared to 29.34 million in March.
