The Delhi High Court on Wednesday questioned the government over its decision to give an ad-hoc extension to MTNL Chairman and MD RSP Sinha without taking the approval of the Appointment Committee of Cabinet (ACC).

"Let me make it clear that this cannot continue for long," said a bench comprising of Chief Justice AP Shaha and Justice S Muralidhar. "Let the ACC take up the issue at the earliest and all the material should be placed before it."

The government’s counsel said that the government could not take approval from ACC because the decision of CBI special court over closure of the case was pending. "There is nothing like ad-hoc extension. The ACC was told that the trial court has reserved its order and now the records of the trial court are being forwarded to the ACC," said government’s Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium.
