AIADMK Chief, J Jayalalithaa on Saturday, while showcasing documentary proof to nail Union Communications Minister A Raja over allocation of 2G spectrum has questioned the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his continued silence on the controversy.
“These and much more have been seized by the CBI during its raids. No one has refuted any of these facts. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, for reasons best known to him, is maintaining a monumental silence. Karunanidhi, who does not have any explanation to give, has instead taken the cheap route of making derogatory personal insinuations against me using the anonymity of various pen-names. But the fact remains that the nation has been cheated of Rs 1 lakh-crore. A scam that is more than 1,000 times bigger than the infamous Bofors scam has taken place. The question is: How long is everyone going to pretend that it has not taken place?” asked the former CM.
The AIADMK chief called for notice of the following seven points:
· DO letter no 007/P&T/095-25398 dated Nov 15, 2008 from KS Ramasubban, Secretary, Central Vigilance Commission to Siddhartha Behura, Secretary, Department of Telecom, expressing displeasure over 2G spectrum allocation process.
· Note made by the Ministry of Law & Justice in which the Law Secretary notes on November 1, 2007, that the issues should first be brought before empowered group of ministers.
· DO letter no 20-100/2007-AS.I dated November 2, 2007, from Union Telecom Minister Raja to the Prime Minister of India that the objections of the Minister of Law & Justice HR Bhardwaj notwithstanding, he intended to continue with the controversial policy of “first-come-first-served” for the allocation of spectrum.
· A letter dated November 2, 2007 from the PM drawing attention to the issues raised in the media on the allocation of Spectrum and stressing the need to ensure fairness and transparency.
· DO letter no 260/M(C&IT)/VIP/2007 dated December 26, 2007 from Raja, informing the PM that he had consulted with the External Affairs Minister and the Solicitor General of India G Vahanvati.
· File noting dated November 25,2007 by senior official of TRAI that “first-come-first served criteria would be replaced by entry by bidding…
· List of “letter-pad” institutions to which 2-G spectrum was allotted.
The opposition parties had preplanned to corner the government over removal of Raja from the ministry. However unexpected developments turned in favour of Raja. Last week the issue of sugarcane price kept the opposition busy while this week seems to be set for confrontation on Liberhan report. |
