The Board of Vodafone Idea has appointed Suresh Vaswani as an independent director for a period of three years with effect from February 8, said the largest telco in a regulatory filing.

"...based on the recommendation of the Nomination & Remuneration Committee, the Board of Directors of the Company have appointed Suresh Choithram Vaswani as an additional director, qualifying as an Independent Director on the Board of the Company ...," said the telco on Monday.

The alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad is currently acting as an external global advisor to Bain Consulting. He is also a Board member of Servion Inc., a technology company in the customer experience space and serves as a senior director on Everstone Capital where he plays the role of an operating advisor in their IT/BPO portfolios.

Vaswani, 59,earlier held the role of general manager - Solutions, Delivery and Transformation at IBM Global Technology Services and has also served as chairman for Dell India.

"Vaswani brings a unique blend of experience through pivotal roles across two US Global IT majors - Dell Services and Wipro Limited as well as being at the helm of a Tier 1 global Indian IT & BPO Services provider," said Vodafone Idea on Monday. At Wipro, he held role of a Co-CEO for the company's IT Business.

"During his career, he incubated several new businesses; built strong customer relationships across the globe; expanded into new markets; acquired several companies & divested non-strategic businesses; forged global JVs & alliances," the telco added.
