Spice Mobility appoints Dilip Modi as Chairman

Spice Mobility Ltd has announced the appointment of Dilip Modi as its Chairman. The appointment of Dilip Modi as Chairman is part of the succession planning within the group. Being the Chairman of Si2i Limited, a Company listed & Headquartered in Singapore and also a Director of S Mobility Ltd., Dilip’s global exposure to technology and market experience will propel the company towards increasing regional market share and provide an upward thrust to the earnings growth.

Dilip Modi built India’s first mobile network company, Modi Telstra, in collaboration with Telstra from Australia and rose to become the Chairman of the company in year 1999. He also led the public listing of Spice Communication Ltd on the Indian stock exchange in the year 2007 followed with the successful merger of the company with one of India’s leading telecom operators which unlocked significant value for the public shareholders in Spice Communications.

Over the last five years, Dilip has been focused on building next generation technology businesses in India around smart devices, technology retailing, mobile applications, online education and commerce. Dilip is also a prominent figure in the telecom industry and policy circles at a time when Indian telecom reached great heights, having been the youngest ever president of ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry) and the COAI (Cellular Operators Association of India).

Speaking on his appointment, Dilip Modi, said, “I am honored to have been appointed to spearhead the Company as it enters the next phase of growth. I believe that the future of mobile internet remains bright with the continued proliferation of portable devices such as smartphones and tablets, underpinned by consumers’ demand for digital content. Spice Mobility will focus its strategies on connected devices built on both 2G, 3G and other evolving technology platforms and the entire retail and services ecosystem around it to ensure holistic growth of the Company".

Dilip Modi holds a first class honors bachelor’s in science degree from Brunel University, UK and a master’s in business administration from Imperial College, London.
