Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, has said on Wednesday that its portable drive test solution GENEX PHU (Generate Excellence Probe Handset Unit) has been selected by China Unicom for conveniently, accurately and quickly completing drive tests to ensure network quality and user experience.

Huawei's GENEX PHU drive test solution is made possible with just a commercial high-end smartphone loaded with a drive test app for voice and multimedia testing. The app carries out data analysis using algorithms that offset external interferences to measure true network performance and user experience for voice and data services.

The development of mobile broadband has made the optimization of networks a particularly important component of ensuring end-user experience. Drive tests are an important way for operators to gain insight into the performance of their network and the network experience of their users. Drive tests are also performed regularly to learn the effects of changes in environment and user behavior.

Common drive tests requires a pile of equipment, including laptops, special testing mobile phones, GPS or other equipment, and typically takes time to receive results as analysis is made offline.
