Railway passengers to get SMS alerts on reservation status soon
TT Correspondent |  |  10 Feb 2014

Here is good news for railway passengers as the Indian Railways is all set to roll out SMS alerts to passengers providing updates on reservation status.

This would come as a relief to the passengers who earlier had to dial the enquiry number 139, or resort to internet to know the status on the waiting list.

The passengers would get an automatic status update once the service is operational and get the confirmation through SMS.

The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) which  an Autonomous Organization under the Ministry of Railways is in the process of creating a software for this service. CRIS develops and manages the Information

Technology applications of the Indian Railways. CRIS also provides IT applications for non-Railway Government and Public Sector organizations.

It may be recalled that IRCTC had launched its SMS-based ticketing which has been operational since July. Through this people can book their tickets though mobile phones.
