Cellcom selects Interop Technologies to provide hosted CMAS solutions
TT Correspondent |  |  09 May 2012

Interop Technologies, a provider of core wireless solutions for advanced messaging, mobile device provisioning and management, and connectivity gateways, has said that  Cellcom has selected Interop’s hosted Commercial Mobile Service Provider (CMSP) Gateway to comply with the government’s new Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) initiative.

Interop’s solution enables the operator to transmit government issued public safety and weather alert messages to its subscribers while avoiding the expense and complexity of an on network system.

Cellcom is known for its superior network technology and the exceptional customer service it provides to wireless subscribers throughout Wisconsin and Michigan. By deploying Interop’s hosted solution, which has received a CMSP Gateway Host certification from the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), the operator ensures compliance with the CMAS initiative.

Presidential, Imminent Threat, and AMBER alerts are delivered over the operator’s cellular broadcast network directly to subscribers with CMAS compatible handsets. In the event of blizzards, floods, missing children, and other public safety emergencies, CMAS helps government agencies communicate with wireless users and save lives and property. There is no cost to subscribers, who may opt out of the Imminent Threat and AMBER alerts if they choose.

“We view CMAS as an important customer care initiative,” said Jim Lienau, Chief Technical Officer, Cellcom. “By selecting Interop’s hosted solution, we have implemented this notification service in the most cost effective manner while ensuring our customers receive these potentially life saving alerts.”

“Interop’s FEMA certified CMSP Gateway enabled Cellcom to quickly deploy a proven CMAS solution,” said Damian Sazama, Vice President of Corporate and Product Marketing, Interop Technologies. “We are pleased to support Cellcom as it provides these important alerts to its subscribers."
