Sprint’s Xohm may bid for WiMAX spectrum in India
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  19 Nov 2008

USA’s only WiMAX service provider Sprint Nextel’s Xohm indicated that it may bid for broadband wireless access licence in India though a final decision on the planned move has not been made. The company also said that it is in talks with Indian service providers for managed services deal for WiMAX networks.

Barry West, President Xohm said that the company considered India to be a significant market for WiMAX services and said Xohm will also provide consultancy services to Indian service providers on the business models to be adopted for WiMAX services.

He however expressed dissatisfaction at the fact that only 20 MHz spectrum per operator will be available in India. He added that 30MHz is the least amount of spectrum required for a ideal scenario for WiMAX services. He however appeared hopeful that additional spectrum will be made available in near future.
