Bihar records highest subscriber additions in Jan; 19.9 mn new wireless subscribers added across India
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  25 Feb 2010

MTNL operates in Mumbai and New Delhi cities. It is the market leader for fixedline services in its areas of operations. A declining subscriber base however results in shrinking the addressable market for services such as broadband and IPTV delivered over the fixedline network.

Broadband subscriber base increased from 7.83 million to 8.03 million.

If the government want to check availibility of dubious mobile connection, government should engage the Post and Telegraph department to for verifying identity and address of the person who has applied for a new connection. This will be a better system than current system where local agencies are doing this activity. Most of these agencies are not doing their job carefully and thus large number of dubious SIMs are available in the market. If government doesn't tighten up the verification problem, terrorists/naxals will continue to get SIMs at will. If the Home Ministry is serious, it must force the Communication Ministry to institute strict verification process.
