India’s GSM growth slows down by 6% in August as 9.3 mn new subscribers added in August

Indian GSM-based service providers managed to add 9.3 million new subscribers in August at a drop of 6 % when compared to the 9.9 million subscribers added in July. The total GSM base now stands at 335.4 million.

BSNL’s additions dipped 16 % for the month as it added 1.3 million new subscribers while MTNL’s slide was 43 %. Vodafone too witnessed a drop as it managed to add 2.19 million subscribers in August as opposed to 2.23 million in July. Idea Cellular and Aircel each notched up 1.5 million new subscribers.

Bharti Airtel maintained its leadership position adding 2.8 million subscribers.

It is misleading to publish GSM growth rate for August,without reporting Tata DOCOMO numbers, which i am sure will take the total GSM additions for August above 10 Mn,

did I hear right that the BSNL is trying to place an PO on ITI for 25million lines for West Zone out of 93 million line tender not getting close to final call on award and problems raised by IB.
