UP (E) leads the race as Indian operators add 20mn new subscribers in March

The growth story of mobile services in the Indian market in terms of adoption of the services continues unabated as the country witnessed 20.3 million new mobile subscriber additions in the month of March as compared to 18.76 million added in the previous month.

 

Circle-wise, Uttar Pradesh (East) added the most number of subscribers at 2 million followed by Bihar with 1.5 million new subscribers. Category ‘B’ circles collectively added 8.7 million subscribers.

 

Company-wise Vodafone added the highest at 3.6 million, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications added about 3 million subscribers each. Tata Teleservices which till the month of January was registering the highest number of additions, managed to add 2.78 million new additions. Idea added 1.68 million, BSNL 2.6 million, Aircel 2 million.

 

Among the new entrants Uninor added 708,556, Stel 289,728 and Videcon managed 32,178 additions. Etisalat which is yet to commercially launch its services is seen to have registered 354 subscribers.

 

India’s wireless subscriber base at the end of March reached 584.32 million while the overall telecom subscriber base stood at 621.28 million.

 

The wireline subscriber base remained almost stagnant with 973 surrenders reported for March.

 

The broadband subscriber base reached the 8.75 million subscriber mark.
