Apple positions new iPhone 2.0 as smartphone with 3G capability
TT Bureau |  |  10 Jun 2008

The wait is finally over for global mobile subscribers for the much anticipated new version of Apple’s iPhone. As expected the new version is enabled to support variety of 3G services. Additionally the new model comes incorporated with features and applications to position itself as a smartphone with 3G capability.

For instance, the iPhone 2.0 enables users to send and receive Microsoft Exchange emails. This is perceived to be a measure to take head-on smartphone majors like Blackberry and HTC.

“We''ve done it. You can push email to Microsoft Exchange," said Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

Cisco is also involved in the project and the alliance has developed a solution which provides Virtual Private Network (VPN) services to enterprise customers.

Even as major part of the world has now access to the second version of iPhone, Indian subscribers feel left out as the country is yet to witness the entry of the earlier version. Recently operators like Vodafone and Airtel have announced tie-up with iPhone to offer the latter’s handsets in India. But even such an alliance will be able to launch the products only by September.
