D-Link to roll out indigenously built video-phone for Rs 30,000
TT Bureau |  |  12 Aug 2008

With an aim to diversify its product offerings to the enterprise segment and particularly the SME segment, networking major D-Link announced the launch date of a video-phone which it claims has been manufactured in India. The price of the video-phone has been set at Rs 30,000. The company hopes even the retail segment can be catered to with the product.

The video-phone to be launched in September has been designed and developed after 18 months and 90,000 man hours investment, says the company.

As per D-Link, the phone is adjustable to broadband speeds ranging between 128 kbps to 2Mbps. The product has a built-in 6 inch screen but can be connected to a LCD monitor or TV. The company claims to have conducted trials of the equipment with US service providers. It plans to offer this product in US and South Asia markets.

In India the video-phone market is in its nascent stage with video-conferencing majors like Polycom and Tandberg dominating the field. Bu with the entry of D-Link which is better known for its competitive pricing, the market scenario in the video-phone segment is certainly set to change.
