Qatar Telecom finds place in Guinness Book as VIP number gets auctioned for staggering $2.5 million

Qatar Telecom registered its place in the 2009 edition of Guinness Book of World Records as its number 666-6666 was auctioned for 10 million riyals ($2.75 million-as per exchange rates in 2006). The record deal was sealed in May 23, 2006.

 

"The most amount of money paid for a mobile (cell) phone number is 10 million QAR (then $2.75 million), by an anonymous Qatari bidder for the number 666-6666 during a charity auction hosted by Qatar Telecom in Doha May 23, 2006," said Guinness Book Certificate.

 

Guinness Book of Records reveals that the previous record price under this category was recorded in China for a value of $480,000 for number 8888-8888.
