2G: Subramanian Swamy, Prashant Bhushan hail SC verdict as best and historic

Hailing the Supreme Court verdict cancelling 122 licences granted to telecom companies at throw way prices during the tenure of former communications minister A. Raja as the best judgment the Janata Party President  Subramanian Swamy said that the country can be justifiably proud of the apex court.

 

"The court has said the government must now get the market value of these licences and the profit from the same should be set aside for legal aide and for ex-defence personnel," Swamy said.

 

On the home minister P Chidambaram, Swamy said, “"As far as the issue of Mr. Chidambaram is concerned, the court said the trial court can decide on it without referring to our comments in this matter,"

 

The untiring social activist Prashant Bhushan has also hailed the  the Supreme Court order in 2G case as "historic".

 

"It is a historic judgement...this judgement will send a strong signal to the entire country and in particular the corporate world that this country is no longer willing to allow these corrupt corporates and the corrupt public officials to retain the benefits of illegal and corrupt acts," he told reporters outside Supreme Court after the judgement.

 

Bhushan, who was one of the petitioners in the 2G case, said the judgement will also help change the nature the way corruption is dealt with.

 

He also said the judgement will help the public exchequer to recover losses caused to the grant of 2G licences by then Telecom minister A Raja in January 2008 and thereafter.

 

He said the corporates will have to "refund the benefits" they got out of the illegal licences.

 

The verdict has come as a major victory to the Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy and lawyer and social activist Prashant Bhushan.

 

Swamy has all along been gunning for Chidambaram for latter’s alleged role for being a party to former telecom minister A Raja’s decision on spectrum pricing.
