Aircel ties up with Nimbuzz to introduce new app-operator ecosystem
TT Correspondent |  |  28 Mar 2013

India’s leading telco has partnered with Aircel Nimbuzz, a leading cross-platform global communications solution to offer affordable communications on data in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

Aircel has launched a plan to promote the app ecosystem, with an offer to provide free data for all the subscribers in J&K which can be used anywhere in India over a period of 30 days. The objective is aimed towards exploring the data-based communication behavioural pattern of J&K consumers.

Instant messaging platform Nimbuzz has recently claimed that its global user base has gone past 150 million in 200 countries in which Asia including the Middle east account for 78 million followed by Africa 16 million, Europe 10 million and USA 9 million.

It said that it registered 100-percent year-over-year growth and supported more than 5,000 devices. Apart from this, it counted for more than 1 billion minutes of Nimbuzz P2P, NimbuzzOut and SIP calls made per month.

Aircel has exclusively introduced the plan for the prepaid subscribers of J&K where Aircel would send SMS to its subscriber base for downloading Nimbuzz from a fixed URL and 40 MB data would be transferred to the users who would download the app and sign in within 24 hours of activation. The development establishes a new trend in the industry where operators and IM applications complement each other to benefit the end users.

Vikas Saxena, CEO, Nimbuzz, said “We are thankful to Aircel for making an effort towards taking mobile communication to the masses with its newly launched Aircel-Nimbuzz data plan. We look forward to their continued support and we are confident that such initiatives will boost internet penetration in the country and bring an aggressive revenue stream for the mobile operators”.

Sundeep Talwar, Chief Operations Head, Aircel J&K said, “Nimbuzz, with its user acceptability and reach, has become the priority partner for us in this new communication-based data plan and we are confident that this plan would not only gain preference in the market and would benefit the growing customers of Aircel in J&K”.
