The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has come down heavily against the mobile service providers as it alleged that the spillover of mobile signals across the border is aiding terrorists. As per the laws, service providers have to ensure that mobile signals are unusable within 500 metres from the border.
In its report the IB further alleges that even the subscriber verification guidelines are not being followed completely by the service providers in border areas.
“DoT should put in place a monitoring mechanism to ensure and assure the security agencies that the service providers strictly follow the conditions of restricting the usable signals 500 metres short of the border and that the subscriber verification is reliable," joint director (IB) R N Behura said in his report.
“Any spillover will assist anti-national/terrorist elements across the border in facilitating their communication with their counterparts and contacts inside India under the camouflage of Indian users and the hostile neighbours will be able to intercept Indian phones operating in the border areas," the report said. |
