BSNL Unions refute information released by PBI
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  31 May 2008

Discrepancies in information seems to have cropped up between Press Information Bureau (PIB) and BSNL employees union, as the latter refuted the contents of the press release made by PIB on Friday, regarding the meeting of BSNL Unions with the Minister for Communications & IT Thiru A. Raja held on 29th May.

Whilst PIB in a press release on Friday said that the BSNL employees union assured of a positive response to the listings of BSNL, but BSNL employees union stated that no such assurance was made.

Furthermore, the statement also said the additional staff of Central Telegraphic Office (CTO) would be given VRS.

“The unions will respond positively to the suggestion for listing of BSNL before June 3, which will help BSNL in getting Navratna status – very essential to maintaining its image and ensuring its survival and growth,” stated the press statement.

Conversely, the BSNL Union said that the information released by PIB is false. While admitting to have had a meeting with the Minister on 29th May on the demand of merger of 50 percent of IDA with pay for BSNL employees, it strongly expressed its opposition to listing, disinvestment, privatization and VRS calling the contents of PBI’s press release a mere ‘fabrication’.
