Siemens, Bangalore working towards replacing airline boarding pass with mobiles
TT Correspondent |  Bangalore |  15 Mar 2008

Siemens Airport Systems Laboratory in Bangalore is working towards developing a technology which would replace the physical boarding pass.

According to Siemens, the service is diiferent from the currently available services offered by travel portals and airlines. Siemens contends that the current m-ticketing services still require a passenger to take a printout of the ticket. But its new application will work like web check-in where one can check-in, select a seat of choice through the mobile phone and then receive a 2D Bar Code which would replace the boarding pass.

The technology developed works on GSM platform.

The company plans to launch the services at Hyderabad and Delhi Airports.
