Amazon launches shopping by Text Messaging
TT Bureau |  |  04 Apr 2008

Internet retailer Amazon.com Inc, launched on Tuesday a new service that allows shoppers to search or purchase products using their cell phones.

The service called TextBuyIt, reportedly lets people text the name of a product, its description or its UPC or ISBN to 262966 and know whether they can buy the item from Amazon or not.

And If Amazon has matching items, the service returns two results at a time. Shoppers then can immediately buy one of the first two the selections by texting back the number ‘1’ or ‘2’.

Howard Gefen, director of Amazon mobile payments, when asked about the new service, said, “We think this is a great experience. We think they''ll use the product...wherever they happen to be.”
