The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) arm of the Indian Railways is often credited for its foresight in leveraging the true potential of online medium. Now the arm seems to have set its sight on the telecom potential in the country as it announced setting up of a ‘Dial-A-Ticket’ service to be introduced within a month.
With the new service passengers will be able to book tickets through telephone.
The Railways offlate have been working on incorporating telephonic communication be it in the form of SMS or call-centre. The IRCTC is also working towards coming up with a call-centre which will provide latest information on reservation as well enable passengers to book accommodation at hotels.
The Railways has received a three digit number from DoT for the above mentioned services.
Railways officials cite that the only worry is about the payment avenues to be provided to the passengers. But in the wake of numerous cash payment companies present in the company this worry should also fade away soon. |
