China to offer dual-mode television mobile handset to Beijing Olympics staff
TT Bureau |  |  30 Jul 2008

China plans to distribute 40,000 dual-mode television mobile phones to Beijing Olympics staff.

The handset will be manufactured by Shanghai Simcom and ZTE Corp and will receive both TD-SCDMA (time division-synchronous code division multiple access) mobile networks and the TV broadcasting channel CMMB (China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting) signals.

Shanghai Simcom, a SIM Technology Group Ltd unit, will manufacture 20,000 phones for the Olympics. China has given order for 1, 00, 000 TD-SCDMA mobile handsets for the event, ZTE said.

Through CMMB, users can receive seven Olympic channels on their handsets. The handset is expected to be made public soon.
