TT Bureau |  |  05 Aug 2008

Sweden’s furniture retailer, IKEA has joined hands with T-Mobile to enter into the mobile services market with the launch of a new mobile service dubbed Family Mobile, a pay-as-you-go service in UK.

The company claims this service to be 25 percent cheaper than any other comparable pay-as-you-go offer as it offers call rates at 9 pence per minute and text rates at 6 pence per minute. Activation of the service requires a £10 of credit initially and can be availed without any contract or monthly charge, said the company.

The service also enables users to establish a household account with a number of SIMs registered to one joint account for gaining more control over household’s mobile costs, says the company. The company will launch the Family Mobile service on August 8 which will be available to IKEA’s family members which number 1.4 million in UK.

The service will be available to all of IKEA’s staff members in UK numbering about 9500 in addition to a free handset and free calls worth £5.
