Saudi Telecom clinches $18.6 mn worth deal with Manchester United
TT Bureau |  |  18 Aug 2008

Saudi Telecom Co (STC) has announced a five-year contract with Manchester United Football Club (MUFC) in a deal valued $18.6 million, in what could be called the first-ever deal the company has signed with a non-Saudi football club.

Under the contract, STC will enjoy the rights to use Manchester United’s logo and imagery in its marketing in Saudi Arabia, reports the Sunday Times.

STC would be able to provide its subscribers with video clips of match highlights, said the paper.

The Saudi Telecom company has pumped in over $6 billion in foreign expansion since June 2007 as it faces stiff competition in its home market, where fixing sponsorship deals with local soccer clubs help telecom companies retain customers in a saturated market.

Details of the deal are expected to be announced in a press conference on Monday.
