While adapting to the modern ways, Western Railway turns up as the latest to embrace technology, as it announced collaboration with Value Added Services (VAS) provider MyToday Dailies for an optional SMS service that gives updates on local and outstation trains within the Western Railways'' jurisdiction.
On subscribing to the service, commuters on Mumbai's Western line will be able to receive SMS updates on mega blocks, train downtimes, and whether trains are running after particularly heavy monsoon showers.
The service, which offers users the option of subscribing to it, is offered free of charge to all cell phone holders unlike most value added services.
Speaking on the occasion, A K Jhingron, general manager of Western Railway said, “Western Railway, a pioneer in various spheres, has taken another step in the field of Information Technology. After successfully launching initiatives such as Computerized Passenger Reservation, Internet Booking, Interactive Voice Response System and Smart Card, we will now provide free updates through SMS.” |
