TT Bureau |  |  03 Sep 2008

Globe Telecom Inc. (also known as Globe), the Philippine’s second largest wireless carrier has clinched remittance tie-up with global money transfer firm Western Union, enabling its users to send and receive money from overseas via their mobile phones.

Under the arrangement, Western Union will attend to accepting the remittance while Globe, through its telecom infrastructure backbone, will serve as the distribution channel using SMS.

The service will be offered to Globe mobile phone subscribers through its Gcash service and will be handled by G-Exchange Inc., the operating unit of Globe that also takes care of the Gcash business.

Currently, there are about 1.5 million users of Globe’s Gcash service and more than 6,000 authorized partner outlets in the country that accept Gcash payments

To start with, the service will be made available in the two cities- Hawaii, USA and Dubai, UAE.
