Alcatel-Lucent comes up with new location-based service platform
TT Bureau |  |  11 Sep 2008

Alcatel-Lucent (AL) on Wednesday announced the availability of its location-based services platform enabling carriers to offer enhanced GPS based services like push messaging, advertising and social networking to their respective mobile subscribers.

Alcatel-Lucent says that its new platform named, 5130 Geographic Messaging Services Platform (GMSP) will reduce capacity demand on networks as well as consume less battery power of subscriber’s mobile handsets.

Not only this, AL says that the new solution helps carriers to target more relevant ads to the user depending on the subscriber’s location. The concept used is a creation of virtual fence of predefined limits around the subscriber’s location and automatic update whenever the subscriber crosses over to another virtual fence.
