Vodafone’s MusicStation debuts in Australia

Vodafone Australia announced the launch of Omnifone MusicStation service in the country, following its release in New Zealand, UK, Hong Kong and South Africa, giving its Australian customers the choice of downloading songs from Omnifone''s million track catalogue at a weekly charge of $2.75.

 

The Omnifone catalogue, which includes music from major record labels including Universal Music Group, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, EMI Music and Warner Music Group and a range of local and independent artists, will be available to both prepaid and postpaid customers with no additional charges for the data traffic associated with the downloads.

 

The MusicStation, with its unique ability compresses tracks to the EAAC+ format, giving it an average file size of 1.2MB, one third that of MP3, but retaining ‘near CD quality’, said Vodafone.

 

Currently, MusicStation will be compatible with nine handsets in Australia comprising of LG KU990 Viewty, Nokia 6121 classic, Nokia E65, Nokia N73, Nokia N95 8GB, Sony Ericsson C902, Sony Ericsson W880i, Sony Ericsson W890i, and the Nokia 6210 Navigator.
