Reuters offers mobile information services to rural agricultural community of Punjab

Media major, Reuters'', subsidiary, Reuters Market Light (RML) announced the launch of its information services pertaining to agricultural and commodity pricing to the subscribers of Punjab. The company has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Punjab Mandi Board for sourcing market data from APMC Mandis across the state.

 

The services will provide information on 17 crops/commodities including cotton, maize, paddy (Basmati and PUSA), wheat, potato, cabbage, pea, cauliflower, green chilli and kinnow from 60 cities markets across the state.

 

The company claims that 3000 subscribers have already subscribed to the services. Reuters also said that increasingly subscribers are opting for the 12 month subscription period as compared to the 3 month subscription period.

 

RML plans to offer these services in Gujarat and Rajasthan as well.

 

RML also provides information on climate and temperature to the farmers for them to plan their agricultural activities.
